Granite has shaped the landscape, communities and people of northern Bohuslän. A new project is now being launched to raise awareness of granite’s cultural heritage and make it more accessible to both residents and visitors.
Through the project ‘Stenens Hus – A View of the Granite Landscape’, Sotenäs Municipality, together with the Stenens Hus Fundraising Foundation and Granitkusten, aims to raise awareness of the natural and cultural values of granite, the history of stonemasonry that has shaped the coastal communities, and the contemporary use of local granite.
As part of the project, Stenens Hus will develop a new visual identity and a digital platform to communicate the vision for a future Stenens Hus to those who wish to contribute. The vision is, in the long term, to create a physical meeting place where the history, culture and future of granite can be told and experienced. At the same time, Granitkusten is developing its digital outreach to serve as a guide to the granite landscape of Bohuslän.
The project also includes public activities such as a travelling exhibition and the celebration of Granite Day. Through collaboration between associations, foundations and public bodies, the initiative aims to contribute to culture-driven place development, strengthen the local cultural heritage and create new meeting places.
